30th Celebration releases worldwide on September 16, 2026, and the single most talked-about thing about it isn't a Charizard or a new mechanic — it's the fact that every booster pack contains one of 30 different Pikachu cards. Reveals have been rolling out through August, so here's where things actually stand a month out.
How the 30 Pikachu subset works
Every pack of 30th Celebration comes with one Pikachu, drawn from a pool of 30. Each one has its own set number, so you always know which of the 30 you pulled — and each carries a glimmering "fireworks" foil layer across the entire card face. That's on top of the set already being all-foil, including the Basic Energy.
Practically, this means the Pikachu is not a chase pull. It's a guaranteed slot. Thirty different cards filling the same slot in every pack is closer to a built-in collectible sub-series than a rarity tier — which is a meaningfully different collecting problem than chasing one alternate art.
Who's drawing them
The headline name is Ken Sugimori, Pokémon's original artist, whose Pikachu is positioned as the first of the 30. It's a deliberately chubbier, rounder Pikachu — a callback to Pikachu's original design rather than the slimmer modern one.
Other confirmed illustrators so far include sowsow, Akira Komayama, Shimaris Yukichi, and Shinji Kanda. The stated concept is a different artist for each of the 30, so expect a wide spread of styles rather than a uniform look.

Separately from the 30, the set also has Pikachu ex cards — a Day and a Night version — whose Special Illustration Rares were revealed on August 16. Those are true chase cards and shouldn't be confused with the guaranteed-slot Pikachu.
What this means if you're buying
If you collect Pikachu: this is one of the most Pikachu-dense products Pokémon has printed, and completing all 30 is a realistic, well-defined goal. Opening packs is a legitimate route here, because you can't miss.
If you're buying to hold sealed: the guaranteed Pikachu is exactly the kind of hook that drives heavy launch demand on anniversary product. Worth knowing that a card in every pack is, by definition, printed in enormous quantity — the specific art you want may be common, and the subset as a whole is unlikely to be scarce. Individual standouts (Sugimori's, most likely) can still separate from the pack.
If you play: these are mostly plain Basic Pikachu, though at least one revealed card carries an Ability. A couple may find niche use, but don't buy the set for playables.
