On August 30, Pokémon dropped the shortest kind of announcement — a name and three Pokémon. The next TCG series will be called Pokémon ex★, and Entei, Suicune and Raikou appear to be headlining it. That's the whole reveal. No mechanic text, no set names, no dates.
It's still worth paying attention to, because it's the first real signal that the Mega Evolution block is winding down.
What was actually confirmed
Very little, and we'd rather say so than fill the gap. Confirmed: the series name, and that the legendary beasts feature in the teaser. PokéBeach's read is that "ex★" presumably introduces a new Pokémon ex mechanic — reasonable, given the star suffix has historically marked once-per-game or one-per-deck cards (Prism Star, VSTAR, ACE SPEC). But nobody outside Pokémon knows yet, and the community guesses circulating right now are guesses.
Anyone telling you what ex★ cards do, or what they'll be worth, is making it up.
The dates that are real

MEGA x MEGA Parade is the one to watch. PokéBeach reports it may close out the Mega Evolution block, which would put the ex★ block's start somewhere in spring 2027 — an inference, not an announcement.
Why February is unusual
High Class Pack sets normally land in November or December. This one was pushed to February, presumably because 30th Anniversary took the September worldwide slot. That's a scheduling detail with a practical consequence: the Mega era now gets a longer tail than usual before anything new replaces it.
Worth knowing about High Class Packs if you haven't bought one: Japanese packs run 550 yen instead of the usual 200, contain 10 cards instead of five, and include a guaranteed hit. Most of the main set is reprints from the past year. The draw is the secret rares with new alternate artwork — which is exactly why these sets tend to be popular with collectors and thin on competitive value.
MEGA x MEGA Parade headlines Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, both of which debuted in Mega Dimension. The August 30 teaser also showed new Mega Attack Rares — the comic-book-style illustrations first seen in Ascended Heroes (Japan's MEGA Dream ex) — from what is presumably this set. Neither Aura Seeker nor MEGA x MEGA Parade has been officially revealed yet.

How we'd think about it
Two honest points.
First, a series-ending High Class Pack is not automatically a scarcity play. Ascended Heroes was the same shape a year ago and got printed heavily. Buy those sets because you want the alt arts, not because a block is closing.
Second, this is a good moment to be patient rather than to reposition. Nobody knows what ex★ does. If it turns out to be a rulebox that stacks onto existing ex cards, that affects certain singles; if it's a standalone once-per-game mechanic, it doesn't. Making sealed decisions today on an unrevealed mechanic is speculation dressed up as strategy.
