What a Futuristic Rare is
Futuristic Rare (abbreviated FUR) is an entirely new rarity that debuts in the 30th Celebration set, which releases worldwide on September 16, 2026. It's never appeared in any previous Pokémon set.
FUR cards are full-art secret cards with a distinct look: the Pokémon is rendered in metallic, holographic color on a futuristic background, ringed by the Energy-type symbols, with a Poké Ball in the art and the Pokémon 30th Anniversary logo stamped in holographic foil. Every FUR revealed so far is a Pokémon ex illustrated by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. The rarity is marked by a colored star that matches the card's primary color.
The first FUR cards
The two confirmed Futuristic Rares in 30th Celebration are Mewtwo ex (157) and Mew ex (158) — both Psychic-type, and widely expected to be the set's top chases. A Pikachu ex in the same futuristic style also exists, but as a separate promo rather than a set card. Because FUR cards are numbered beyond the main set (the English set runs to 128), they sit in "secret" territory alongside the other top-tier chase rarities.
